The weekly AYA returns!: Television

This week, I’m wondering…

  • Do you watch television shows? (If you don’t watch it on a tv but instead use something like Hulu, I’m counting it.)
  • If so, what kind of things do you watch?
  • Are you watching any currently running shows?

Thanks! I love your AYA responses and I’m looking forward to hearing from y’all again.

I’m watching TV right now! Kinda!

I just discovered in the last few weeks that I can stream Netflix onto the Wii, so I’ve been watching TV shows that way. It’s exceptionally nice, like having an extremely cheap on-demand-only cable service with middling selection (but often surprising in a good way). I definitely need the noise and pictures so I don’t get depressed.

I seem to have trouble finding stuff I want to watch that isn’t absolutely awful. Maybe I just have high standards, but I don’t like most things on TV. I find myself watching Futurama and King of the Hill, and next I’ll probably be watching Rocko’s Modern Life.

I’d like it if I could stream some things that are current, but I don’t have access to things that haven’t been released in some form or another or licensed for streaming. So no season or series that’s in progress or anything.

Oh, that is neat. I was wondering, though: how are the subtitles on the Wii? I’ve been lusting after Netflix on Wii for a while now but the subtitles issue has gotten in the way before.

      I like Futurama.

Subtitles on the Wii represent subtitles as a whole for Netflix: hit or miss. I’m pleasantly surprised pretty often, but most shows don’t have them. Movies are perhaps 50/50. I get the sense they’re rolling them out, and they’ll be more readily available soon.

When they are available, they’re not on by default but easy to find before you play the program, and they’re usually quite good quality.

Like I said, this makes me seem like all I watch is tv… TV shows I regularly watch are House, Bones, Fringe (although now it changed nights so I have to watch it on Hulu and I’m not caught up), Castle (Nathan Fillion, OMG). Sometimes I watch NCIS and Criminal Minds because I like cop shows, I guess…? Through Netflix I’ve watched almost all of Star Trek: TNG (my favorite of the Star Trek series) (dvd’s), and Doctor Who and Torchwood on streaming (but they are also on DVD I think). On and I watch Eureka and Warehouse 13 on Hulu…those both have captions. Also, Big Bang Theory is hilarious. And I maybe kinda watch ANTM whenever it’s on because I’m that (kind of) gay.
